REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

    

DEFINITIONS

 

"SAILING KZN" shall mean the Kwazulu Natal region of South African Sailing.

 

RULES

 

All Provincial Championships shall be sailed under the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS),

and such other requirements of the Sailing KZN Racing Committee.

 

VENUES AND DATES

 

All Provincial Class Championship venues, dates and times must be approved by the Sailing KZN Racing Committee.

 

The relevant Class Association must first agree with the proposed host club the dates and venue, the courses,

with due consideration for other class races that may be held simultaneously in the same regatta and entry fees covering

the requirements of the host club, the Class Association and any other service provider.

 

Sailing KZN should be informed of the proposed Championship venue & dates for the forthcoming season

at their “Calendar Meeting” normally held in May preceding the next season.

 

ORGANISATION

 

The host club shall be the Organizing Authority in terms of RRS and shall appoint the regatta committee,

the race committee and jury, in conjunction with the relevant Class Associations, if appropriate.

 

NOTICE OF RACE

 

The draft Notice of Race in terms of RRS shall be compiled by the Organizing Authority in conjunction with any

relevant Class Association and sent to Sailing KZN, for approval, at least 10 weeks prior to the date fixed for the first race.

 

The Notice of Race MUST be sent out to every member of the Class Association at least eight weeks before the date fixed for the first race.

 

Editable templates for the Notice of Race are available on the Sailing KZN website or from their Durban offices.

 

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

 

The Sailing Instructions shall comply with the requirements of the RRS and an editable template for the Instructions

is available on the Sailing KZN website or from their Durban offices.

 

The draft Sailing Instructions shall be sent to the Sailing KZN for approval at least 3 weeks prior to the date fixed for the first race.

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

YACHTS

Only yachts conforming with their class rules and restrictions and holding valid registration certificates

from SAS will be eligible for the contest.

 

OWNER & SKIPPER

The owner and the skipper of each yacht entered shall be a member in good standing of a club affiliated to,

and in good standing with, SAS and where applicable, the relevant Class Association.

 

CREW

Every crew member other than the skipper of a yacht competing shall be a member in good standing

of a club affiliated to, and in good standing with, SAS.

                 

ENTRIES

 

Should the Orgnising Authority wish to make use of the Sailing KZN offices for receiving entries etc,

this service is available and should be requested.

 

MINIMUM NUMBERS

 

In order to qualify, as a Provincial Championship, certain minimum numbers are required to finish at least one race in the regatta.

These numbers vary depending upon the class of yacht concerned and information is available on the Sailing KZN website

or from their Durban office.

 

Failure to achieve the required numbers will result in the regatta not being recognized as a Provincial Championship.

 

MEASUREMENT

 

The Class Association shall be responsible for policing compliance to Class Rules and they are advised to ensure

that the class measurer is available during the regatta should he/she be required.

 

NUMBER OF RACES

 

The maximum number of races scheduled MUST appear in the Notice of Regatta and in the Sailing Instructions.

 

No less than 6 races shall be scheduled for a Championship.

 

Unless otherwise specified in the Sailing Instructions, one discard should be allowed for every five races

 

If fewer than 4 races are completed, the contest will not qualify as a Provincial Championship.

 

SAILING KZN MEDALS

 

Depending on the number of competitors (i.e. minimum number of finishers in any ONE race of the series)

SAILING KZN Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals will be awarded to the skipper and crew members.

 

Where a medal winning crew member has been changed during the series, the medal will be awarded

to that crew member who has sailed in the most races.

 

RESULTS

 

Within 7 days of the completion of any Provincial Championship series the Organizing Authority shall transmit

the complete results of the Championship, including the names of the skipper and all crew members of each

competing yacht to the head office of Sailing KZN.
