The Yardarm
The focus the last month has been on trying to get the slipway
winch and dolly operational again. This has been done successfully and
Swannie has got the knack and is handling the machinery admirably. We
have hauled four vessels ranging from six to twenty two tons, fin keels,
bilge keels and long keels. Thanks Swannie and Mike.
My next focus is
going to be the Yard and Garages, specifically the housekeeping and
electrics. Mike and his gang keep the general area clean but under the
boats and around the garages “stuff” is accumulating and it looks
terrible. Anyone doing work or stripping,
boats: the onus is on you to remove the rubbish from the site and
not dumped for Mike to clear, or left in the Dinghy Yard. Contractors
will remove this debris and the offenders accounts debited. Many members
and visitors come into the yard so let us keep the area as tidy as the
main entrance area. One only has to go to the Bluff Club and see how tidy
their area is in comparison.
Finally, the electrics to the North of the Slip are all
reticulated from the same supply, and this includes the walk-ons. The
system is over-utilised and highly illegal. To help alleviate this problem
all the garages will be inspected and a maximum of one plug and one light
will be allowed. This is how the original and new garages were planned
and this is how they will remain. If the original wiring has been changed
or does not conform to the regulations, the service will be removed until
the installation conforms and a Certificate of Compliance is issued. I
also think that appliances like freezers and aircons used in garages and
on the walk-ons is taking advantage and should be removed. We have to
remember this is a Club and all members have equal rights to the
facilities, and some people are not more equal than others! If one needs
to weld, the kiosks dotted around the site should be adequate. E Walk-on
area may still be a problem but the volt drop should improve with less
load upstream.
Every owner or lessee’s assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards for Xmas and the New Year.
