FROM THE BRIDGE

Time really flies and the festive season is upon as again. I will therefore start by wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

I would also like to welcome all the cruising sailors from other countries and elsewhere in South Africa to our Club, and hope that you have a pleasant stay. Zululand is an interesting area where African culture and wildlife can be enjoyed in close proximity to the Yacht Club.

The Special General Meeting on the 5th of November has also come and gone. I am happy to report that the meeting was well attended and that proceedings went of in a very civilized way, despite the controversial nature of the agenda.

The Executive Committee has received an overwhelming mandate to implement the conditions of the lease agreement with the uMhlathuzi Municipality, specifically clauses 8.4 and 8.5. This will now be done by requesting “Letters of Intent” from affected members (Some have already sent me theirs but quite a few are still outstanding) The intentions will then be discussed in an “one on one” meeting and a plan of action agreed upon. This unfortunately can only start in early December, as I will be away on leave from the 9th of November.

Unfortunately there will have to be another Special General Meeting on the 11th of December 2005, as there is still some unfinished business from the AGM in August to attend to. The “Notice of Meeting” should be ready for mailing during November.

By the time this Newsletter reaches you, the Restaurant and Bar will be under new management. From what I have seen and have heard up to now, things appear to fall into place nicely, and the prospect of again being able to have a good meal, looks very good indeed. I want to wish Inge and Otto Gaipl, the new managing couple, all the best in this new venture!

The Club’s racing season is now also under way but it is disappointing that only a handful of boats regularly join the bi-weekly and the Wednesday evening races. There are many more boats on moorings that are competitive enough to give the “Fast 42 group” a run for their money!

As I have mentioned earlier, I will be away on leave in South America from the 9th of November to the 9th of December. During my absence Greyling Ehlers, the Vice Commodore, will be in charge and should be contacted if there is an issue that would normally be dealt with by myself.

Have a happy festive season!
